Eat and Drink
Bright is the ultimate foodie destination. With multiple top restaurants, bars, wineries, craft breweries and country pubs, there are options for every kind of palate. Visit Bright and surrounds’ providores, cafes, and wine bars to stock up on supplies from local producers and head back to Eliza’s to cook-up and enjoy. Or head to one of the many local restaurants and cafes offering Asian fusion, American BBQ, vegan, traditional Italian, and modern woodfired pizzas.
We don’t pretend to be experts, but here are a handful of our favourite places to eat and drink, all within walking distance from our accommodation. No designated driver necessary!
Restaurants
If you’re looking for a special culinary experience, a visit to Elm Dining is a must. Exquisite food prepared by world-class chefs, an extensive wine list curated by their expert sommelier, and beautiful service in a cosy and romantic setting.
Elm is located at one of Bright’s most iconic and historically significant locations; For over one hundred years, this was the surgery and residence for Bright’s doctors from 1857 to 1977. This was where Eliza/Edward spent time employed as a manservant to Dr Benjamin Kinsey Warren. Elm is located at 98 Gavan St, Bright (opposite Bright Brewery).
If you’re after something a little more casual, head to The Yard Bar and Grill (adjacent to Elm). The Yard is a Mexican-inspired al fresco cantina and is the perfect place to lounge on a bean bag on the front lawn or under-cover in the outdoor dining area. Their slogan, ‘work hard, play hard, eat tacos’, says it all!
Fill up your belly with burgers and share plates at Tomahawks. Every single thing on the menu is delicious (yes, we’ve tried everything!). Eat in or take your burger away and enjoy it by the river. They don’t take bookings, so just walk in and grab a seat. It’s always busy, so you may have to wait … but believe us, it will be worth it!
Pubs & Breweries
If you’re looking for a parma and pot in a classic pub setting, head to the Alpine Hotel or the Star Hotel. If craft beer is more your thing, you’ll love Bright Brewery. Relax with a full flavoured craft beer, indulge in delicious meals, and, if you’re lucky, watch the brewing action unfold right next to the bar. Many good ‘meetings’ have been held at Bright Brewery. Cheers!
Pies, Pastries, and Providores
Hot pies, pastries, cakes, slices, and sandwiches. Whether you’re after something savoury or a sweet treat, you can’t go past one of Victoria’s most famous bakeries, Beechworth Bakery Bright. Excellent service in a great country atmosphere.
If you’re after something healthy and nutritious, you can’t go past Clean Bowled in Gavan Street, where you’ll find tasty, chef-prepared bowls using local seasonal produce. Great to grab on the go or to savour down by the river.
Gourmet savoury pies in all manner of flavours. Buy hot for immediate enjoyment or in cold packs to cook back at the house.
Takeaway
If you just want to relax and eat at your accommodation – or by the river – Bright’s town centre features a large range of takeaway options, from Thai to Italian, burgers to sushi, or good old fish and chips. A simple Google search of ‘takeaway food Bright’ shall reveal all.
